Who is in charge of enforcing a child support order?

The New Jersey Child Support Program is serviced by the Department of Human Services, Division of Family Development, Office of Child Support Services. Each county has different locations that are a part of the child support service, the county Board of Services, the county Family Courts and the county Probation Divisions.

Age of Emancipation

NJSA 9:17B-3 The age of emancipation is 18 but a support order does not automatically stop when a child reaches 18 years of age. Either party must petition the court for a support order to be stopped.

Statute of Limitations to enforce a child support order

Interest

NJSA 2A:17-56-20 The State IV-D shall have the authority to assess interest on any support order not paid within 30 days. The rate of interest shall be determined by the State IV-D Agency within the amounts specified by the federal Department of Health & Human Services.
